This is the standard behind “how many are there?” It is not about reciting number names in order; it is about matching one number to one object and knowing that the last number said is the answer. The arrangement matters, which is why the standard lists lines, arrays, circles and scattered piles separately — scattered is markedly harder, because there is no obvious place to start or stop.
